Bacteriostatic mechanism and applicable strains
2-phenoxyethanol broad-spectrum bacteriostasis, its bacteriostatic mechanism is to act on the cell membrane, improve the permeability of the cell membrane to potassium ions, inhibit the enzyme activity required for cell growth (such as malate dehydrogenase). 2-Phenyloxyethanol has specific bacteriostatic properties against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and also has antibacterial effects on gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria.
Toxicity
2-Phenoxyethanol, as a preservative standard compound, will not release formaldehyde, and is included in the white list of preservatives in the "Cosmetic Safety Technical Specifications" issued by China in 2015. 2-Phenoxyethanol is not a skin carcinogen, nor does it improve skin irritation, and is now considered the safest, most efficient, gentle and widely applicable preservative in the EU BPR and US EPA evaluation. Toxicological data LD50 (half lethal dose):
Rat oral: 3000mg/kg
Mice oral: 4000mg/kg, which is mildly toxic.
Does not contain any heavy metals, dioxane, diethylene glycol monophenyl ether, phenyl ether have clear index control, so the purity is higher, the odor is lower, is currently the only internationally recognized one of the few preservatives.
It has excellent compatibility performance and is very good with various surfactants.
It does not change the smell and color of cosmetics, topical drugs, and toys.
It can be used in combination with some other preservatives such as parabens.
